The problem

Storm protection should not depend on last-minute preparation

Traditional shutters and plywood must be installed before a storm and removed afterward. Impact windows make protection part of the opening itself while also improving everyday security, noise control and solar performance. The product still must be correctly specified and installed for the individual home.

Permanent opening protection

Laminated impact glass is designed to remain in the frame when struck by approved test debris.

Less pre-storm labor

Protected openings do not require temporary shutters each time a storm approaches.

Stronger everyday security

The laminated interlayer is difficult to penetrate compared with ordinary annealed glass.

Florida-specific specification

Product approval, design pressure, opening size and exposure must be considered before ordering.

Do not wait for a named storm to begin comparing products. Measurements, product approvals, permitting, manufacturing and installation all take time.

Benefits that matter beyond hurricane season

01

Storm readiness

Protection remains in place at the opening, reducing the need for last-minute shutter installation.

02

Security

Laminated glass adds resistance against forced entry and accidental breakage.

03

Noise reduction

The glass and tighter assemblies can make traffic, landscaping and neighborhood noise less intrusive.

04

Solar control

Available glass packages can reduce solar heat gain and help rooms near the windows feel more comfortable.

05

UV protection

Laminated and coated glass options can reduce ultraviolet exposure to flooring, furnishings and artwork.

06

Insurance documentation

Product and permit records can support a wind-mitigation inspection, though eligibility and premium changes are determined by the insurer.

The solution

Impact windows must be selected for the actual opening

South Florida homes vary by location, exposure, opening size and applicable requirements. A responsible proposal should identify the exact approved product and performance rating for the project.

Product approval

The manufacturer, series and approval documentation should match the proposed window and project requirements.

Design pressure

Opening size, building height, location and exposure affect the pressure rating needed for a specific installation.

Installation method

Anchoring, substrate, sealants, permitting and inspection are part of the protection system — not optional details.

Why South Florida homeowners choose WindowWall

Florida-focused product guidance and one accountable team through measurement, permitting, installation and service.

  • PGT Platinum Certified Dealer. We are one of a small group of Florida dealers certified at PGT’s top tier. That means factory-direct pricing, priority access to inventory, and product training that goes well beyond a typical reseller.
  • In-house installers — no subcontractors. Every crew on your project is a W-2 WindowWall installer, not a third-party sub. That is how we hold our quality and our warranty.
  • Florida code & HVHZ ready. Every impact window we install meets Florida Building Code for the South Florida region. Many are rated for Wind Zone 3 and HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone).
  • One-day install on most jobs. Our crews average 8–10 windows per day. You do not spend a week with the house torn apart.
  • Lifetime warranty — product AND labor. Most companies warranty the product only. We back both, in writing, for as long as you own the home.
  • No high-pressure sales. Written quotes good for a year. We would rather you make the right decision than a fast one.

South Florida impact-window questions

How are impact windows different from ordinary windows?
Impact systems use laminated glass and tested frame, anchoring and assembly designs intended to resist approved impact and pressure testing. The exact product and rating must be appropriate for the opening and project.
Do impact windows eliminate the need for shutters?
An opening protected by a properly approved and installed impact product generally does not require an additional temporary shutter over that same opening. Confirm the complete opening-protection plan and permit requirements for the property.
Will impact windows lower my insurance premium?
They may help a property qualify for wind-mitigation credits, but eligibility and any premium change depend on the insurer, policy, complete opening protection, documentation and inspection results. Ask your carrier what applies.
What does HVHZ mean?
The High-Velocity Hurricane Zone includes Miami-Dade and Broward counties and has specific product approval and code requirements. The proposed product must be suitable for the project location and opening.
How long does an impact-window project take?
The full timeline includes measurement, product selection, permitting, manufacturing, installation and inspection. Timing varies by scope and product availability; your proposal should explain the expected sequence.
