Why Your House Feels Smaller Than It Should
You may find yourself looking at the square footage of your home and wondering why it feels like even a simple table takes up too much space to be comfortable. We’ve seen it countless times, and we may have the solution for you.
The listed square footage of a house can be a deceptive number. We all know to look out for jutting, useless, walls or awkwardly shaped rooms that promise a bigger square footage number with little to no usable space. But there may be one feature that may have slipped your mind when you wonder why your house feels so small: how do your doors swing?
It seems almost too obvious when you say it out loud, but do your doors swing inward or outward? Maybe that walkway you wanted to put a entryway table in isn’t actually all that small. It could be that you have a 3-foot wide door that swings inward, taking up precious space needlessly.
Inswing vs Outswing
When it comes time to replace your door in order to gain more space, it may be as simple as switching an inswinging door for an outswinging one.
What’s the difference?
For exterior doors, if you’re standing outside your home and have to push the door away from yourself we consider that an inswinging door. By extension, if you pull the door towards yourself when standing outside then we consider it to be an outswinging door.
Push Away = Inswing, Pull Towards = Outswing
Replacing Your Doors
Maybe it’s time to replace that inswinging door with a more space conscious outswinging option, or perhaps it’s time to move forward with a complete door redesign to fully optimize the function and aesthetic of your home.
Either way, if you’re ready to reclaim the space your door has been eating away from your home we at WindowWall are here to help. We have an enormous selection of doors from French, to patio, even to sliding-glass, and have expert install techs on standby to help answer any questions you may have.
